Draw On! Black Rock

Children and adults are invited to take part in Draw On! Black Rock, which is designed to bring the joy of drawing to our community. Several individual and group activities will be happening at once, including an opportunity to visually interpret music played in our Gallery!
This program is running in conjunction with Draw On! A Week of Drawing in the Community, happening at the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art. Free of charge, all supplies will be provided, but donations toward the supplies are requested.

Photographer Barbara Paul of Westport captures people living in remote regions of Asia and Africa where few travelers visit. She photographs their ethnic dress, tribal and religious customs, festivals and daily way of life, showing the spirit of the moment in each image. Refreshments, FREE.

Positive Results: Camera Obscura Self-Portraits
Photographic Works By Students at Black Rock School & St. Ann's School

After completing a four hour workshop with photographer Thomas Mezzanotte, students from Bridgeport's Black Rock School and St. Ann's School will share their self-portraits with the community. Students made their own pinhole cameras using what they have learned about camera obscura, and used the hand-made cameras for self-portraits at the Art Center. Refreshments, FREE.

This will be the Grand Opening of our new Stairwell Student Gallery!

Bridgeport: State of the Arts

For the second year we will be hosting the State of the Arts exhibition and round-table discussion. We have invited representatives from N.E.S.T. Art Factory, the Barnum Museum, Gallery 1212, City Lights Gallery, the Discovery Museum, Fairfield Arts Council, MACH, Housatonic Museum and Read's ArtSpace to discuss Bridgeport's cultural plan and where it is headed, and the barriers we face when seeking funding for the arts.

This one day exhibit will be a preview of artists who will appear at the Seaside Park Arts Festival happening on May 24th (see below). Guests at State of the Arts will have a chance to talk to the organizers and register for a table at the festival.




Seaside Park Arts Festival

Seaside Park is getting a facelift with the addition of 60 new Trash Drum Artworks created by area artists and students. To celebrate, we will have an arts festival with musical performances, artist tables, community organizations, and many activities for visitors of all ages. Organized by Oil Drum Art, N.E.S.T., Black Rock Art Center and the City of Bridgeport.

Broadway Bound
Kate Katcher's 6th Annual Summer Acting Program for Kids & Teens

The program is open to youth
ages 8-16 with an interest in stage performance. Each day includes classes in acting, voice and dance.
The term is five weeks long, Monday through Friday, beginning on Monday, June 30th and ending with a final evening showcase for family and friends on Friday, August 1st at the Black Rock Art Center. Ms. Katcher may be reached at 203-270-6918 or at katcher@earthlink.net.

TP Productions Acting Class
Taught by "Tony the Greek", this class is designed for adults who are serious about starting their acting careers. Students learn techniques to become better, more marketable actors and tips to help them open the right doors in the industry. Classes meet on Tuesdays, 6 - 9 PM and
Saturdays, 2 - 5 PM.

For the fourth year, Black Rock Art Center is proud to be a part of the Black Rock ArtWalk taking place along Fairfield Avenue throughout the spring and summer. This year's ArtWalks will occur every first and third Friday from 6 - 9 PM, May through October.
